Bailout Gone Wild Porn Peddlers Want Uncle Sam’s Booty
Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis and hardcore media mogul Larry Flynt think that the adult entertainment industry deserves a $5-billion bailout. Wink, wink, Nudge, nudge. Zip, zip. Looks like they are going after the real money shot!
Yes, this is really happening, although in an industry in which shock and awe are more prevalent than sterile press conferences, these skin kings aren’t really hoping they’ll get a check from Uncle Sam. They’re just hoping people like me will write about it. Why else would the announcement be synched up with the arrival of the Adult Video News (AVN) Awards? Doh.
It’s the kind of opportunistic PR stunt that will have the Big 3 automakers now bristling at ridiculous questions. Can you even imagine some reporter asking GM’s Rick Wagoner: “How come you should get taxpayer money, but underground snuff filmmakers can’t?”
Can you say…..awwwkward?
Granted, Francis and Flynt contend that naughty DVD sales are down more than 20 percent. And heck, when you’re pinching pennies, what passes for adult viewing can be a slippery slope of undiscriminating taste: “The Hills,” CNN…and heck, maybe even “The Biggest Loser.” Maybe not.
Will Flynt and Francis head to Washington to make their case? As long as they don’t take a private jet, they should at least be heard. We suggest they commandeer the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile.
