BarCamp Miami 2009

Submitted by Craig Agranoff on Tuesday, 9 December 2008 View Comments

UPDATE:  BAR CAMP WILL BE HELD AT ANOKHA MIAMI AND NOT AT THE SAME PLACE AS LAST YEAR.   http://www.eventbrite.com/orderconfirmation/213003098/3571613/

Miami will host its third BarCamp on February 22, 2009. BarCamp is an international network of innovators who have created a new forum of user-generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications and related open source technologies, social media, and open data formats. We had an amazing, thought provoking experience last year.  BarCamps are probably the best part of all tech conferences.

The first BarCamp was held in 2005 in Palo Alto CA but BarCamp’s innovative format has quickly spread to more than 30 cities around the world, in North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Australasia and Asia.

BarCampMiami is a free-wheeling discussion of new products, services and ideas. It brings people together who understand what new technology means for Miami’s future. BarCamp fosters collaboration, matching technologists with designers, with engineers, and with angel investors and venture capitalists.

This edition of BarCampMiami will include WordCamp! This is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress, the world’s most widely adopted blogging platform and content management system.

These are not your traditional talking-heads technology conferences. Everyone is expected to participate in some way: by giving a talk, asking questions, or organizing a session.

Who Should Be There?

Anyone working on a new startup that wants to get some great feedback. Anyone looking for talent. Anyone talented looking for work. Anyone looking to invest in brilliant new ideas. Anyone looking to find partners for their brilliant new ideas. Anyone who wants to practice a presentation s/he is working on. Anyone who has a passion for blogging, wikis, design, coding and the web in general. Everyone is welcome. Everyone is encouraged to present. It’s an excellent source of what is hot, new and upcoming.

How much does it cost?

BarCampMiami and WordCamp are free events thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. Sponsorships are $300 maximum so that even startups can contribute on a monetary level to keeping this a free, grassroots community event. BarCamp Miami will be held February 22nd, 2009 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, Knight Concert Hall.  It will now be held at Anokha Miami located on 3324 Virginia St http://barcampmiami09-blog.eventbrite.com/ Admission is free.  If you’d like to know more: http://barcampmiami.org
