Catalog Your Life With Belongsto.me

belongstome_100Do you still have that subwoofer stored in a storage locker downtown? Do you have any dusty old presents that might be good to re-gift for your brother-in-law’s bowling alley birthday party? If you wanted to pay your way through college via eBay auctions, what do you have worth selling?

Belongsto.me is an interactive online tool for book-keeping all your possessions. You don’t have to be a celebrity with three cribs or a materialistic fashionista to own a lot of junk. Everyone accumulates stuff, and it can be completely worthless if you forget you have it.

With Belongsto.me, you can label, organize, archive, and export your stuff via Excel. Heck, you can post pictures of your belongings too, just in case years from now you can’t tell the difference between your conga drum and djembe drum. (And if you’re looking for your old Razor Scooter, it’s better to have a picture of it in Belongsto.me than on the side of a milk carton.)

Belongsto.me is perfect for those in their teens and 20s, who are moving back and forth between home, college, apartments and flophouses, all-the-while scattering all their possessions along the way. It’s also great for those empty nesters preparing for a big garage sale before they turn junior’s old bedroom into a Jacuzzi suite.

picture-31The website is now available in private beta, and you can earn an invite code by simply requesting one on the homepage. There is nothing to install and nothing to lose – except your old accordion collection, if you don’t sign up for Belongsto.me.

Belongsto.me is also a great way to itemize the stuff in your house for insurance purposes should a natural disaster happen, such as a hurricane.  Jim and Nick who created this site are a part of the new breed of web developers, who not only program and design, but program and design their own sites for us to enjoy.  I say keep your eyes on these two in the future.

In the interest of fair disclosure, although this post has nothing to do with their relationship, the editor of sCommerce has made another site with the creators of belongsto.me www.wheresblaine.com.

    Wow, what a fail.
$144/year for having records of stuff in a database is just plain ridiculous.

We do strongly believe in charging a price though. I won't go into it here, but these are our thoughts:

We acknowledge that Belongs to Me isn't for everyone. If you find another service that works better for you, then I say great!
