EventNu is a gathering place for people looking for something to do, somewhere to go, or any kind of event in India. The site is community-driven with events announced and listed by users. Finding events is easy and is done through either a calendar, a search, or just by browsing categories.

The site is sort of an Indian-local version of whatsOnwhen.com, though eventNu is definitely more focused on community.

The site started in July, launching at Proto.in in Pune, India. The eventNu site is still in beta. Users can interact with eventNu through the website and also by following city/area-specific Twitter accounts such as eventNu_pune and eventNu_delhi, amongst others. Alerts to new events in these areas (there are about half a dozen accounts) are sent through those Twitter accounts. There is also a weekly event newsletter that users can subscribe to which highlights the latest events listed.

Event managers can even list their events and take pre-registrations (RSVPs) for those events to get a good idea of the attendance level for logistic purposes. Events through eventNu cannot have tickets pre-sold through the site, which has to happen elsewhere, but the free RSVP feature is a good tool for the smaller event organizer–especially for outdoor or other events that don’t really have a seating or attendance limit.

The site is definitely something cool and very useful. Hopefully this trend catches on and similar sites will pop up in the U.S. as well. That’s a big hint to you netrepreneurs out there.

On Thursday, November 19th, Jon Lovitz and his comedy club, Rich & Tone Productions, and Web startup MashCast will attempt to break the world’s record for the most silly walks in one place. The event is held to benefit several world hunger organizations, including Feeding America and the Global FoodBanking Network for the holidays.

The event will be broadcast worldwide through the MashCast website, choreographed by Rich & Tone Productions, and will feature comedian Jon Lovitz and a crowd of helpful silly walkers.

The event is both for charity and to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Monty Python. The silly walks will be from one of Python’s most-loved sketches, The Ministry of Silly Walks. The money raised is hoped to be enough to provide a million meals for families in the U.S.

MashCast is an online video streaming and collaborative social network and its CEO, Scott Page, says the event will ìinstantly call people to action with technologies like IM, texting, and especially Twitter, we will be able to reach millions of people all over the world…î

A further link comes from MashCast’s early beta client: Monty Python (pythononline.com). The troupe uses the collaborative nature of MashCast to create custom content for their website.

SillyWalks for Hunger will take place on the Universal CityWalk, centered on the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, but will range the street as participants.. well, walk funny. All in the name of charity and all broadcast live, online.

While many apps have come along offering virtual sticky notes, most up to now are downloaded desktop apps. A few Web-based ones have come along, but they’re almost always clunky and virtually (ha!) useless.

Listhings.com is extremely simple. In fact, if you go there now, you’ll be presented with a blank page with a yellow sticky in the center prompting you to enter something. It remembers you via cookies, so you don’t have to create a login or anything.

Notes are created by clicking the “Add” button at the top right and the note style, color, etc. can be changed easily. They’re “grabbable,” so you can move them around the screen and they size themselves dynamically to what you’ve entered.

In fact, the site can be summed up like this: browse to it, make stickies, move them around.

That’s pretty much the whole website. You won’t find a more focused, simple, and easily-understood site than this.

Listhings has use for some people, surely, and could be poised to become popularly useful.

The question I have is where their income stream will be (I envision “popup” notes appearing as adverts) and why the reminder apps already available on my phone, notebook, or pen and paper need to be replaced in this way. Which brings up the inability to print individual notes from the site—a limiting factor in my mind.

I can see how this site could be greatly useful for some and I find it extremely refreshing that someone decided to not go to the trouble of making something overcomplicated when it definitely doesn’t need to be.

This is a great example of a good app with excellent execution and no wasted “extras.”

Let’s face it, CafePress is great for simple t-shirts with your favorite logo or phrase printed on the, but that’s about it. What if you’re a little more fashionable than that? Up to this point, you’ve been restricted to the usual outlets for your dress shirts.

Not anymore.

ShirtsMyWay was created by two Danish guys: Michael Yang and Peter Crawfurd. Their vision was to create a site that allows the user to use a WYSIWYG shirt designer to choose fabrics, cuts, thread colors, collars, and more and custom-design a dress shirt to their liking.

Whether you want one or a hundred of them, you can design a shirt and have them made. Visual proofs are given at every stage of shirt creation, so you know what you’re getting.

The company’s HQ is in Hong Kong and it hasn’t been online for very long, but it’s already getting a fair amount of traffic.

ShirtsMyWay is definitely a strong niche site that will have solid appeal to its clientèle. The two partners started this site with very little overhead and resources and are proving that the Internet is still all about the niche.

Of course, this is a brand new site and it’s in a niche that will have demanding customers. So far, complaints are few and far between, but I expect a lot of nit-picky customers will begin appearing who’re hoping for a custom tailored shirt from a website that relies on you to take accurate measurements.

All told, though, this is a great concept and has a great chance of succeeding in the niche-driven world of Web commerce.

We will be serving free pizza and beer (maybe some wine too) paid for by our gracious sponsors VOIS.com (who happen to have a pizza expert on their team).

The first presentation will be an intro to co-working by Alex de Carvalho and Brian Breslin. They will be talking about how co-working can work for you, how co-working in Miami is evolving and changing, and how we all as a community can benefit from co-working. They will also be talking about Jelly’s and other co-working initiatives that are going on around the country.

The second presentation will be given by the VOIS.com team who will be outlining VOIS’s functionality, how they built it, why they built it, and where they see it going. They will also be talking about how VOIS can help small companies, freelancers, and independent contractors get more business or source more work out. VOIS is a local startup based in Boca Raton.

We are about to head to the airport to attend SXSW (South By Southwest). If you happen to see me walking around, please do not hesitate to stop me and tell me about your company. sCommerce, unlike many of the other blogs out there, does not consider this a hassle. We consider it an honor to try to give some needed publicity to any start up that seeks out our advice and help.

My advice to those who are attending SXSW, do not walk around the whole day texting and playing around on your phone, as you will miss many important people who might have gone un-noticed while you were looking down. Strike up a conversation with anyone who makes eye contact with you. You are not spending all this money to just act like your introverted self. This event is about getting to know the fellow members of the tech community. You will be shocked at how much you have in common with each other. The tech community is about co-opetition, and if you see someone that you have been meaning to ask a question to, or curious how they accomplished the programming they did, don’t be scared to ask. It will shock you, how happy they will be that someone noticed their quality work.

SXSW is also one of the best spots on earth to find a designer, or coder for your company. Pay attention to the name tags! You might see the very person who could propel you into fame!

You can twitter me @lapp or Gary @voisgary even Herb @voisherb, any time during the events to find out where we are, and where we will be. If you mention on twitter I LOVE www.VOIS.com and hashtag #sxsw or #sxswi and show it to us in a bar….then the drinks are on us!

SEE YOU ALL TONIGHT!

Pirates now have a choice that doesn’t involve potential lawsuits. The music streaming site, Spotify, has the blessing of several in the music industry: EMI Music, Sony BMG, Warner Music Group, Universal Music, and a few of the smaller record labels. The service itself has two revenue streams, depending on the user’s choice: paid subscription or ad-sponsored free use.

It works through a small download that acts as a “receiver” for the streams—sort of like a radio receiver for your computer. Using the streamer, you can search the database by artist, genre, etc. and create playlists of songs to stream. Tracks are streamed as often as you’d like, ad-free or otherwise (depending on your subscription).

Playlists can be shared with friends through the service or on Last.fm. Future plans include list plugins for Facebook and Myspace, according to Spotify.

The bad news is that the service is currently only available in Europe, but new markets will be opened this year, including the U.S. Current users around the Web are saying the site’s speed, usability, and song database depth are very good. Some are complaining about commercial frequency and some sound quality issues, though.

The songs can’t be downloaded and stored, thanks to the RIA-friendly proprietary stream, though, so you can’t put them on your iPod or other device for more portable use. I expect there will be a hack for this sooner rather than later, if it doesn’t exist already. The ability to build playlists based on streams as well as your local collection (such as ripped music on your hard drive) would be a bonus and isn’t offered by Spotify.

At least they’re on the right track, making both music fans and the recording industry more or less happy. As the service and ones like this evolve, we’ll probably see more user-oriented additions to make things happy.

Once services like this catch on, it’s only a matter of time before Apple and other music device makers start integrating with them, making for more portable music. In fact, with the new stuff going on in Detroit right now, it’s likely the auto industry might jump on board too. So streaming music to your car might not be too far off.
