Datebility – Online Dating for the Physically Challenged

Submitted by Aaron Turpen on Saturday, 27 June 2009 View Comments

datebilityOnline dating services like Match.com or eHarmony may not be for everyone, especially if you have a disability. Well, now there’s a new site made especially for those with a physical challenge called Datebility.com.

While the new beta site enters the already well-populated field of dating for the disabled, it’s the only one with not only a promise of service, but a strong enough venture backing to be around for a little while.

While most sites like this focus on finding matches based on various criteria and allow users to build profiles that are as rich in detail as they’d wish, Datebility includes a few more things likely to have appeal.

The site is enhanced so that users with various disabilities can change how the site interacts with them to compensate. So if you’re hard of hearing or deaf, the site can be tuned to include subtitles for any sounds. Those with visual impairments can have the site tuned to better accommodate their text-to-voice reader.

Of course, profiles can also be filled out to include any information about your physical impairments that you wish as well as your own degree of physical independence. You can filter searches based on this information as well, so if you’re in a wheelchair and prefer someone capable of pushing you, that can be included in your search criteria.

While the site is in beta, it is free to use. Those who sign up for beta will keep their free accounts until the end of the year.

Looking through the site, you’ll see that it’s very similar to most online dating portals and is fairly easy to understand and use. Setting up an account is simple and you can begin looking through profile matches without filling in every detail of your own profile. So in just a few minutes, you could be looking for someone.

If you have been looking for an online dating portal that understands your physical abilities, Datebility is probably for you.
