Design Platform Canva launches to businesses

Since its creation a few years ago, Canva has been offering an accessible design platform for people online that boasts more than a million photographs, graphics, and fonts. With more than four million users, the company is now bringing that model to the business world.

Canva for Work will be available to companies of any size, enabling access to all of Canva’s core features as well as particular features aimed at businesses. These include the ability to save and share brand kits with the company’s logo and the “Team Screen” for sharing designs with other teams or individuals in the company.

Canva founder and CEO Melanie Perkins says it was a natural step for the company to offer the platform to businesses in response to the high corporate demand they had been receiving. The new platform will provide in-house design teams with a variety of prepared templates across different file formats, making presentations, posters, ads, letterheads, social media, and posts a lot easier to complete.

Canva offers an appealing feature in the form of the “Magic Resize” option, which provides an automatic update for designs created on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. Marketers can save hours worth of work by clicking one button.

Canva has doubled its customer base in the past few months. Perkins believes this can be attributed to the growing demand as well as the product itself.

Perkins said: “We’re really seeing this trend toward visuals across every single industry and every profession. Previously, a sales letter could be plain text … but now, all of sudden, someone in sales is expected to create a beautiful visually based, custom pitch deck. That trend is absolutely universal. We think documents that, in days gone by, were text-based, are becoming increasingly visual.”

Canva for Work has been tested for the past few months by companies such as Huffington Post, Upworthy, Lonely Planet, and Hubspot. Canva has been monetizing through third-party designers offering their designs through the platform. However, the company intends to offer Canva for Work as a subscription-based service at a cost of either $9.95 per user each month for an annual subscription or $12.95 per user when paying monthly.
