JomSocial Helps Joomla Become Social

picture-11Chances are that if you’re not using WordPress to manage your site’s content, you’re using Joomla. Well, Joomla just got a little bit better.

JomSocial is a social networking tool for use on Joomla-enabled sites. It’s powered by Ajax and is a component made by Azrul. It includes social networking tools like buddy systems, PM, photo sharing, and most of the things you’d expect from a social networking enabler.

Third party integration is also there so you can expect to see Firefox and other Ad-ons/plugins coming soon as this new tool takes off. For the design-driven site owner, templates abound in this new plugin and most Joomla templates are supported as well.

One tester, upgrading from Community Builder to JomSocial, commented on how easy it was to install and implement (no manual needed). His main concern was with organization of files (back-end) and templates, which he found clunky.

Overall, this looks like a great app that will only improve with time. This is the first release of JomSocial and I’m sure we can expect to see improvements coming quickly. It’s definitely filling a niche that’s been kind of vacant for Joomla users for a while now.
