S4ve.as – File Sharing That’s Easy and Free

s4veasFile sharing apps are as old as the Web.  Maybe even older.  I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that back in the first days of the Internet some scientist in Sweden wasn’t trying to figure out how to send a graphic file to a colleague in Peru.

While the concept of file sharing over the ‘Net isn’t new, the ability and common means to do it are relatively new.  As these technologies progressed, it was only a matter of time before someone hit on the idea behind S4ve.as.

The idea is obvious once you see it: easy, anonymous, and fast file sharing without all the hangups of logins and complicated info sharing to link up with your collaborator who’s to receive the file.  You simply go to the S4ve.as site, click to upload your file through your browser, and when it’s done you get a link you can send to anyone you’d like to receive the file.  They have 24 hours to download it before the link goes dead and the file erases.

Simple, easy, fast, and no-nonsense.

Definitely a highly useful app to have access to.  Not surprising, considering some of the people behind this site used to work for companies like Napster and Sony-Ericsson.

Something better: you can also find out who checked your link and downloaded the file (or at least the statistics).  Since the URL you’re given once the file is uploaded and ready to be shared is smashed through bit.ly, you can access full bit.ly statistics for the file simply by putting in the compressed address with a “+” at the end (e.g. http://bit.ly/myfileishere+).

S4ve.as is owned by Media Hog and has a full disclosure Digital Media Copyright Act disclosure.  Given the backgrounds of some of Media Hog’s executives, this isn’t surprising.

Regardless, this site is very fast and easy to use, requires no login or personal information, and is extremely useful.  It’s also free!  Definitely worth checking out.
