Slovenia Tech Company Zemanta Gets Seed Money
Last year a little known start-up called Zemanta, was declared one of the six winners at the European start-up competition known as SeedCamp, along with hypernumbers, kublax, tablefinder, buildersite, and rentmineonline. Today, they just announced a round of financing from Union Square Ventures to the tone of $750,000. This brings their total amount of funding to $2.3 million. Other investors into the company have included Eden Ventures, and The Accelerator Group. Currently their offices are in London and Slovenia (nice to see a company out of Slovenia!).
Zemanta helps bloggers enrich their sites content with non-copyrighted content as well as images and links. It is still a free service and bloggers can plug the service into Firefox, IE, Wordpress, Moveable Type and many others. It basically scans the words on your blog, and it will make suggestions about what it deems as relevant. I am anxious to start using Zemanta and see how it could enhance my writing. The only other competing product I have seen, and it only competes with the linking aspect is SmartLinks.
