Social Search and Analytics Company Topsy Introduces Public Google Plus Posts
Topsy – the social search company that also offers an analytics platform – has announced that it will now start including Google Plus posts in its search results. The only posts to be included will be the public ones, so any posts published privately will not appear in search results.
The home page for Topsy now has a message underneath the main search box. It states that the search index for Google+ is live, and prompts you to try it by clicking the link provided.
There is one very important thing to remember about this service if you intend to use it. If you want to search the Google Plus posts, you must do so independently of the main search engine. They do not currently appear when you perform a general search. This could be irritating for some users, but Topsy is hoping to integrate them completely in the near future. The service is currently in beta mode.
No doubt, this will provide more visibility for Google Plus, but until their posts show up with the main results they will not enjoy the degree of visibility they would otherwise. However, this is a good move in the right direction. Topsy is the first company of its kind to provide this type of search, and others may follow its example.
