Cryptos rise ahead of Shanghai update, US CPI data

Bitcoin rose 1.5 per cent to nearly $28,300, while Ethereum gained over 1.3 per cent to exceed $1,850

Bitcoin (BTC) rose 1.5 per cent during the past 24 hours to nearly $28,300, while Ethereum (ETH) gained over 1.3 per cent and managed to exceed $1,850.

The market leader has traded in a very tight range during the past week, barely moving much. Such consolidation, together with declining volume, could suggest a sharp move soon, according to Joe DiPasquale, Chief Executive Officer of BitBull Capital.

As per the expert, the market sentiment continues to be positive, which will permit a specific group of altcoins to perform decently these days in case Bitcoin continues to be in the current range for longer. Similarly, DiPasquale thinks that a correction toward $25,000 would not break the bullish structure, whereas a move to $30,000 is probably face resistance.

The events scheduled to be held this week could decant the direction of digital assets. Firstly, Ethereum’s Shanghai update, scheduled for April 12, could result in considerable selling pressure on the price of the market’s main altcoin.

Though, there are a number of experts who defend an entirely different argument. Experts like Mads Eberhardt, from Saxo Bank, point out that most of the investors with staked Ethereum have a long-term profile, so it is not likely that they will choose to withdraw their cryptos once the update is finished. On the contrary, according to a report from CryptoQuant, over half of staked Ethereum is experiencing declines of nearly 20 per cent of its value.

Usually, selling pressure comes about when market participants achieve extreme gains, which is not the case at present for Ethereum, because it has been staked, according to the experts.

On the macroeconomic front, the latest U.S. inflation data is set to be released on Wednesday, a key data point in determining the next step of Federal Reserve as it moves towards potentially ending its hiking cycle.

Markets are once again focussing on central banks, as per CME’s FedWatch tool, there is a 60 per cent possibility that the Fed will raise another 25bp. This could be the last move in this hiking cycle, even though rates could stay high for longer than anticipated. Even though the evolution of inflation will continue to be most crucial in its forthcoming decisions, we will have to be very mindful to employment and consumption data, as well as to the tensions that may happen in the financial sector, according to XTB.

Elsewhere in the market, gains were quite steady among the altcoins. The gains of over 1.6 per cent for Dogecoin (DOGE) and 1.4 per cent for solana (SOL) are notable, while Polygon (MATIC) is one of the few big tokens that did not gain on Monday.
