A widespread CenturyLink outage Sunday triggered massive disruption for dozens of websites and services, a list that reportedly including Discord, Hulu, Feedly and Xbox Live.

CenturyLink service has since been restored.

The CenturyLink outage was identified as the cause of service disruption Sunday at Cloudflare, a web infrastructure and website security provider that helps keep websites up and running.

Dozens of sites were impacted, including Discord, Hulu, Feedly and Xbox Live, according to a report in The Verge.

This was not a Cloudflare-specific outage. Level 3/CenturyLink was responsible for an outage that affected many internet services, including Cloudflare, San Franciso-based Cloudflare said in a statement. The company said that while its automated systems first detected the extensive networking problem, manual intervention from CenturyLink was required because the outage affected all data centres that use CenturyLink for connectivity.

CenturyLink acquired Level 3 Communications, a provider of tier one core transport, IP, voice, video, and content delivery for medium-to-large Internet carriers, in 2017 for $34 billion.

Independent website DownDetector.com which reports internet outages, showed a spike of internet connectivity issues coming in across the United States and Europe Sunday morning.

Monroe, La.-based CenturyLink in a tweet confirmed an IP outage impacting Content Delivery Networks and said that all services had been restored as of 11:12 AM ET.

We are able to confirm that all services impacted by today’s IP outage have been restored. We understand how important these services are to our customers, and we sincerely apologize for the impact this outage caused, CenturyLink said in the tweet, which came about four hours after the outage was first reported.

CenturyLink experienced a massive outage in December 2018 when a single malfunctioning network card took down phone and internet services for both consumers and business users, including 911 services in some states. Some customers lost connectivity for two days.

A Cloudflare outage in July briefly brought down public cloud networks, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform. That outage was due to a router error on its global backbone.
