Android games to Windows

The move means that players will be able to access titles from the Google Play Games ecosystem on Android phones and tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows PCs simultaneously

Google is planning to bring Android games to Windows PCs next year. A Google Play Games app will be available in 2022, built by Google to allow games from Google Play to run on Windows laptops, tablets, and PCs.

The move means that players will be able to access titles from the Google Play Games ecosystem on Android phones and tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows PCs simultaneously and with seamless switching between devices. Google didn’t share details about how exactly the experience will play out for users.

Behind-the-scenes, the Google Play team built something different from what Microsoft has for Windows 11. In fact, Google’s app will be available on Windows 10 and newer — exact specs coming at a later date. As part of this, the app/service has a new green, triangular icon with half a controller.

Greg Hartrell, Product Director, Games on Android and Google Play said: Google Play has helped billions of people find and play their favourite games across multiple platforms, including on mobile, tablets and ChromeOS. Starting in 2022, players will be able to experience their favourite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PCs.

This Google built product brings the best of Google Play Games to more laptops and desktops, and we are thrilled to expand our platform for players to enjoy their favourite Android games even more. We’ll have more to share soon!, he said.

The Google Play Games ecosystem is reportedly accessed by over 2.5 billion users every month, and features some of the best Android games on the platform. The application has been designed with feedback from Google’s community and developers in mind, hopefully resulting in a polished experience when Google Play Games releases on Windows PCs in 2022.
