TikTok led the chart of Christmas Day downloads ahead of Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger, and Snapchat

Popular short video-sharing platform Tiktok has topped the chart of downloads on Christmas Day this year.

According to mobile data and analytics company App Annie, the number of downloads on December 25 globally was estimated across both iOS and Google Play Stores.

TikTok led the chart of Christmas Day downloads ahead of Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger, and Snapchat.

It is worth noting that ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is one of the few major tech companies that also runs a popular consumer app in China. ByteDance runs Douyin in China, which is comparable to TikTok features. However, Douyin traffic is not directed to the TikTok.com domain.

When it comes to games, there are some well-known titles on this list, and some less known ones. The Brain Story: Tricky Puzzle was the most popular on Christmas Day, globally. It was followed by Poppy Rope Game, Subway Surfers, Free Fire, and ROBLOX, which rounds up the top 5 list.

Recently, TikTok surpassed tech giant Google as the most popular website of the year, says a report.

According to a report by IT security company Cloudflare, the viral video app gets more hits than the US-based search engine.

The rankings show that TikTok knocked Google off the top spot in February, March and June this year, and has held the number one position since August.

Late 2020, Google was the most accessed domain, according to Cloudflare. This was followed by Facebook, Microsoft, Apple and Netflix. TikTok’s traffic came in at number 7.

The social network, which is owned by China-based Bytedance, now has more than one billion active users across the world and that number continues to grow.
