Frame lands $10 million in funding

The cloud-based service Frame announced that it managed to obtain $10 million in a Series A funding round. The app launcher helps users run programs that were originally designed for their desktop computer, such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Excel, on an internet browser.

Companies like Columbus Nova Technology Partners, SQN Venture Partners, and Bain Capital Ventures showed faith in the Frame platform by participating in the round. Frame is now in its third year and has maintained momentum, achieving $2.5 million in seed funding last November.

Frame’s founder and CEO, Dr. Nikola Bozinovic, announced the funding, saying: “In 2012, we set out to change the way people think about personal computing. Today we are taking a significant step toward realizing that goal by letting anyone with the Internet connection access his own cloud computer. We are thrilled to have the strategic support from our investors to help us in our mission.”

Like many Series A funding rounds, Bozinovic confirmed that the investment would help Frame to upscale its model and infrastructure. This will be followed by the launch of a public beta app, which Bozinovic says will deliver “graphics apps from the cloud directly into any browser with no plug-ins required.”

The Frame CEO also believes in the “ideal fit” the app offers its users for devices not naturally associated with Adobe or Microsoft Office, such as the Apple iMac and MacBook series. The service can be used for as little as $10 per month.

Frame has the potential to change the way users access graphics-intensive applications much like how Dropbox has transformed the way people store files.

Mohsen Moazami, the Managing Director of Columbus Nova Technology Partners, said: “Our investment will help the company continue to grow toward its goal of fundamentally transforming the way applications are managed and delivered from the cloud.”
