Businesses in the Wiltshire Council area received funded access to expert digital skills training to improve their use of social media and drive an increase in sales.

Social media tech company Maybe* has been selected by the county’s council as the designated provider of digital skills training. High Street businesses across Wiltshire are being given sponsored access to tools and training worth over £400 ($525.73).

Insights provided by the company show 19 per cent of independent high street businesses in the area are active on social media, against a UK average of 24.4 per cent.

Council leader Richard Clewersaid: We’re delighted to work with Maybe* to provide these digital skills training workshops and social media management tools free of charge to Wiltshire businesses.

As we come out of the pandemic, it’s essential that businesses have an engaging and effective online presence, so I’d urge all Wiltshire businesses to take advantage of this offer to help them gain a digital advantage, he said.

The social media training and tools includes everything from where to get started with social media to advanced strategies about how to use Facebook ads to deliver winning sales tactics.

Regional development manager Neil Eames for FSB South West said: FSB is always keen to support any local initiative that can help small businesses. We are very aware that the use of social media can maintain and increase profile and sales.

Providing social media tools for our local business community is a great way to proactively support the retail sector at such a crucial time, and ultimately to help promote the fantastic town centres in our area, he said.

Maybe* CEO Polly Barnfield OBE said: It’s a privilege for us to be able to support the local business community in Wiltshire.

He said: We are enjoying working with these local businesses to help them use social media to connect with customers and improve their ability to reach new markets.
